On Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled that the Biden administration can rescind Trump’s “Stay in Mexico” policy. This policy applies to people who traveled through Mexico and wish to apply for asylum in the United States. Under this policy, any person who wanted to apply for asylum had to remain in Mexico as USCIS and Immigration Court reviewed their application. This policy put many migrants in danger of kidnapping, assault, and robbery while in Mexico. Between January 2019 and the end of 2020, the program has sent 70,000 migrants back to Mexico to wait for their court hearings. While this may be good news for migrants, Title 42 still remains in place which means that the border can remain shut for asylum seekers. The Biden administration is currently in the process of appealing Title 42 in the Appellate Court.
