On March 3, 2016 Lloyd Bennett, Esq. attended a meeting at the New Jersey
Law Center in New Brunswick, NJ. The meeting was attended by representatives
from the NJ Department of Consumer Affairs, Assistant US Attorney District
of NJ, USCIS and the Administrative Office of the NJ Courts. The purpose
was to discuss the effects that the unauthorized practice of law by "notarios"
has upon the immigration community. All parties agreed that this issue
is a serious problem in the immigrant community. Only attorneys and BIA
accredited representatives are are allowed to give immigration advise,
complete forms and appear before the USCIS. Its a third degree crime for
anyone else to do so. We discussed what has been done in our community
to combat this issue and new initiatives that will be undertaken.
