Performing Entertainers And Athletes Visas (P-1)

About Visas for Performing Entertainers and Athletes

The P-1 visa classification allows certain athletes, entertainers, and artists into the United States along with their staff needed for support of the production. Individual visa applicants in the entertainment industry are not eligible for P-1 visas.  However, individual athletes are eligible for P-1 visas. For the entertainment industry, a P-1 visa is issued only for a specific event.  Once the event is over, the visa is no longer valid, although the visa can be good for about one year.  Individual athletes may be issued P-1 visas for five years and athletic teams may be issued P-1 visas for a period of six months.  These types of visas are generally easier to get than an O visa for athletes.  Issues for application can be confusing so it is in your best interests to retain a New Jersey immigration attorney to assist you when needing help with a short term visa.

The P-1 for Athletes requires that the team or individual must be internationally recognized, such that they are recognized and  renowned in more than one country.  In order to qualify, they must be entering the United States to perform services that require such recognition.  Significant documentation is required to qualify, which must be provided in detail and the application properly filled out in order to be approved.  The Law Offices of Lloyd E. Bennett, Esq., P.C. can assist you in obtaining the needed documentation quickly and effectively

For P-1 Entertainers, they also must be internationally recognized, with the added stipulation that their recognition has been for a sustained and substantial period of time.  Each individual in the group must have been with the group for at least one  year.  The group is considered for this type of visa in order to enter the U.S. for a specific concert, tour or event.  This could be a series of concert or activities, which would be considered an event.  As with athletes, extensive documentation is required which can best be put together for you with the assistance of our office to ensure a better chance of acceptance of the application.
