New Jersey Attorney Helps Aliens with Visa Lottery

Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, What is it?

One would not think that a person could win permanent residency through a lottery, but in the United States and by law, the U.S. Government has been making available a total of 50,000 diversity visas ("green cards") each year since 1995 through the Diversity Immigration Visa Lottery (aka, the "Green Card Lottery," "U.S. Visa Lottery," "Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery" or the "U.S. Immigration Lottery"). The U.S. visas offered through the DV Lottery grant a foreign national permanent residency and work status to winners.  For any questions regarding the DV Lottery, contact a New Jersey immigration attorney who can provide you with advice and assistance in applying.

Winners of the DV Lottery will receive all the advantages and benefits of a U.S. permanent resident, including job, health and education benefits and opportunities.  DV Lottery winners can also become U.S. citizens.  There are no age limits for application and you can register for the DV Lottery whether you are living in the U.S. or in a foreign country.  Applicants are, however, required to satisfy minimum nationality and education or work experience requirements.

Some countries are ineligible for participating in the DV Lottery.  Applicants who were born in any territory that has sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. in the previous five years are not eligible to receive a diversity visa. For the lottery in 2011, natives of the following nations are ineligible: Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
